Filmclubism in BF

In Baixada Fluminense, independent cultural groups began a filmclub movement that brings cinema to the viewer. For over a decade, these film clubs have a massive role on the social upbringing of suburb regions and the starting of a dialog to change the day-to-day of these cities. This documentary shows the role of six of the major filmclubs in Baixada Fluminense; Cineclube Mate com Angu, from Duque de Caxias; Cineclube Buraco do Getulio, from Nova Iguaçu; Cineclube Donana, from Belford Roxo; Cineclube Cinema de Guerrilha, from São João de Meriti; Cineclube Xuxu com Xis, from Austin; and Facção Feminista Cineclube, from Duque de Caxias. These film clubs take movies to squares, to bars, to schools and to where else there is a place to show. Promote film clubs is preserve the possibility of gathering, of relating with another and the pleasure of share and motivate people.

Carol Vilamaro

Journalist graduated from Faculdade Pinheiro Guimarães.
She studied filmmaking at the Darcy Ribeiro Film School and professional photography at Senac.
Participated in the Laboratory of training in audiovisual in the Produtora Escola Cinema Nosso during every year of 2017.
She was already was director, producer, social media, collaborator and photographer of several films.
She is one of the directors of the BaixadaFilma movement, a movement that began with a manifesto for the territorialization of the budgets of Audiovisual for the Baixada Fluminense, peripheral region of Rio de Janeiro. Curator of Circuito #BaixadaFilma, an itinerant film show with productions by directors from the region. Producer and exhibitor at the Mostra #BaixadaFilma, staged until June 21, 2018 at the Hélio Oiticica Municipal Arts Center, Tiradentes Square – Rio de Janeiro.
Creator of the Volcanic Orange, a seal of independent productions of the Baixada Fluminense. In 2017 she released the documentary Cinema Delas addressing the role of women in film. In the same year he had a documentary project approved in the Cultural Territories edict of the Secretary of Culture of the State and launched on March 8, 2018 in the Odeon a documentary about the cineclubista movement of the Baixada Fluminense, the Cineclubismo in the BF.

Barbara Cunha

Barbara Cunha holds a Design and postgraduated in Studies of Image and Contemporary Culture. She began her career in cinema in 2000 and in 2007 she founded the 99 Produções with the aim of producing audiovisual works and art visual work that have technical and artistic quality for the national and international markets. Her company works with international co-productions, we aim to fully involve the participating countries not only focusing on the financial support, but also in the artistic and technical collaborations between the partners. She is currently directing 2 documentaries and developing a feature fiction film. In visual arts, she uses the photography as her main platform. Most of her personal projects deals with the feminine, the body image its transformations, achievements, limitations, fears, scars. Speaks french, english and spanish, beside portuguese, her first language. .

Fertile Land at Full Tide

Birth is, in many peoples, a time of celebration and worship. However, over the years, the hospitalization of childbirth has destroyed many of the roots that linked us to the ancestral culture. The documentary discusses stories of women who exercised the profession of partaking and brought knowledge that goes beyond obstetric training, presenting birth in a natural and humanized way. The relationship between midwife and parturient, non-medical solutions, and spirituality appear as paths to female freedom while they represent a connection with the ancestry erased by time.

Bel Bechara – Sandro Serpa

Bel Bechara and Sandro Serpa have been working together for 15 years with film, video and photography. Graduated in Social Communication from UFMG, they have designed and performed several documentary and fiction projects, shown at national and international shows and festivals and on television. Léa Fabreguettes, 24 years old, is a French Director of animated film. During 6 years, she studied Animation Art in France. She has graduated in 2015 from the EMCA (École des Métiers du Cinéma d’animation) in Angoulême and in 2012 with the DMA jury distinction from the school of Animation Art of Paris, Institut Sainte Geneviève. She wrote and directed The heady hat in 2012, it received The City Award at Festival de Senlis 2013 (France), The Audience Award at the 13th Festival du Court-Métrage en Lussacais 2013 (France).

Monk

To whom does a monk raise a glass? To whom does he read his prayers? When the sun sits down the river, everything becomes gray and it’s more difficult to distinguish between white and black and the borderline between them. The monk crosses this line in search of the answer.

Sashko Danylenko

Sashko is an independent filmmaker from Ukraine who has his own individual style. Sashko joins folk and contemporary, nature and digital in his works. He creates magic worlds with colorful characters and extraordinary allegories.

He was born in Eastern Ukraine in 1989. Sashko spent childhood drawing a lot, reading books and riding his bicycle.

In 2006, he left for the industrial city of Kharkiv to study Thermal Physics but discovered animation in time.

Sashko did short animation experiments as a hobby until “Ocheretyany kit” music band found his style of animation interesting for a music video to the song “Zishla Zorya” in 2011.

This debut animation “Zishla Zorya” was selected for screening at numerous festivals around the world and allowed him to visit as an invited artist at KROK IAFF. Meeting with the animation community have brought to Sashko new opportunities and inspiration.

During 2012-2013 Sashko presented two animation films “Carpathian rap” and “Reggie” in collaboration with Dakha Brakha and M.O.R.J. music bands. Films were selected and honored by many festivals. In 2013, he moved to Kyiv, a capital of Ukraine where he has worked closely with the Institut Francais and began his international collaborations. His first international project was animation film “Swan” with Kwoon, French post-rock band. Sashko worked on the film in Cite Internationale des Arts, an artistic residence in Paris for 5 months in 2014. The film was supported by Institut Francais, I3Grants and Art brutal and was presented in July 2014 on Cite des Arts stage.

Sashko returned to Ukraine from France in September 2014 and started working on a new animation project “Goopalo Vasyl” with TNMK, one of the most acknowledged hip-hop bands in Ukraine. “Goopalo Vasyl” includes animation film, an interactive media character, souvenirs, a fairy tale book and a mobile game. “Goopalo Vasyl” was presented on Kyiv Comic-Con.

In 2015, Sashko decided to travel to the USA to broaden his horizons and seek new experiences and inspiration while working as a freelance illustrator for Ukrainian publishing companies and developing new animation projects.

Since the 2016 year Sashko working on documentary animated films for TED Conferences, TED-Ed, The School of Life and TOPIC as a director and an animator.

Nawabi Baluchari

The film ‘Nawabi Baluchari’ is about a special kind of silk tapestry of West Bengal, India. When Murshid Quli Khan became the first Nawab of Bengal, he transferred his office and courtyard to Murshidabad from Dhaka. There were silk weavers in a nearby village named Baluchar. The weavers were encountering the extravagant lifestyle of the Nawab for the first time. By being overwhelmed they created a kind of tapestry. They brought it to the Nawab for seeking some fortune. The foreign businessmen who was visiting the Nawab also discovered the new kind of tapestry. They made it as contemporary documentation. Periodically it has the Nawabs, then the foreigners, and their visits with the Nawab in the Nawabs Palace. The design shows Bibi is sitting as importantly as the Nawab in the court. It also has British women having tea in the garden, foreigner couples are on a boat trip on the Ganges with a native sailor. The intricacy in their hairstyle, clothes, jewelry, shoes are impeccable. Then comes the steam engine and the whole train as a motif on the tapestry. This new kind of weaving art made Murshidabad and the village Baluchar famous worldwide. The tapestry was gained fame by the name ‘Baluchari’. It all happened within 200 years. Devasting flood came over Baluchar for three consecutive years. The river Bhagirathi engulphed the village. Due to this calamity the weavers faced fatal consequences. A few of them flew to a drier land Bankura [200 km away]. This way fate puts the Baluchari weaving in the Baluchar village inside a coffin.

Trisha Banerjee

Trisha Banerjee did her masters in Molecular Biology from the Presidency college, Kolkata. She was a Senior research biologist in TCG Lifesciences. After five years of that job she took a brake to find out what she wanted to do from what she was doing. She joined Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute [SRFTI] to learn Animation Cinema. This unique course opened a new world that was completely unknown to her. Her love for stories finds new ways to flourish. She learned new techniques to make films and started telling stories as projects of SRFTI. Her first short animated film was ‘knachamithe’ [Unaged]. When she was asked to go for a documentary in animation, she chose the 300years old art of making Baluchari saree, as she was married to a man of the village Baluchar, and she came to know it’s glorious yet unsung history from before. Mystically she gifted her mother a Baluchari saree from her first salary years ago; just to celebrate this Trisha asked her mother to do the voice-over for this film.

Marjolaine Perreten

Born in 1990 in Lausanne, Marjolaine studied multimedia design at ERACOM in Lausanne (Switzerland) from 2009 to 2012, and then learnt animation all by herself, through internships. After working at Nadasdy Film (Geneva, Switzerland), for the animation director Marcel Barelli («Gypaetus Helveticus», «Vigia»), she has been admitted in 2013 at the school La Poudrière in Valence, France. She is currently working at Nadasdy Film as an animation film director.
