Salvatore Tuccio

My name is Salvatore Tuccio, in art Aethus, and since the beginning of my work of reporter and video movie maker I tried to underline the emotions and motivations of the situation I was representing.
Recently I am involved in the creation and editing of wedding videos, and web formats. My activities, initially dedicated to the migration flows, are more and more diversified with the realization of short films, commercials and events both touristic and environmental. I worked and I’m collaborating with various newspapers and televisions, not only providing audiovisual material, but also in the stages of production and post-production.  Rocío  Prieto

Throughout her professional career as a copywriter in different agencies in Spain and Portugal, she has always done audiovisual works since the creation of the idea, until, in 2015, when she was already a free dance teacher, she decided to unite her two passions and make a documentary by her teacher Annie Garbie. It is the first time that it passes from the script to the realization. From dance to the image. With a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, she combines her profession as a creative writer in Lisbon and her vocation with dance. Folklore Charro, Flamenco, Modern, until 2008, when through his brother Orestes, she comes to the Free Dance. Currently working in an advertising agency, he teaches free dance and is discovering her new talent as a filmmaker after finishing her first documentary: Ecoute, an experience with Annie Garby and free dance (2017).

Cine-Event ‘Bijagó

“Sculpting the Spirits” is a journey off the West coast of Africa exploring how the magical world of the Bijagós people is threatened by the generational changes happening in their society.
The strange and close relationship that the Bijagós have with spirits and nature defines the matrilineal structure of their society and informs every decision taken by the community. However modernity and Christianity are now spreading across the islands, developing new needs based on money, luring young people away from their traditions.
Banca, a famous sculptor of spirits, feeling tired, old and worried for the future of a culture in profound transformation, does his last sculpture instructing his son in the hope he will take over.
Guided by a storyteller and our characters’ voice “Sculpting the Spirits” is not only a journey exploring how Bijagós women have special powers to embody spirits while men can only sculpt them but is also the link between spiritual beliefs and the survival of a community.

Noemi Mendelle

After graduating in Anthropology and Women’s Studies, she started her film career with Steel Bank Films (1982), a Channel 4 film workshop based in Sheffield. She is an experienced director, producer & exec producer on the international scene, having worked on numerous documentaries for broadcast (Ch 4, BBC, Arte, ZDF, YLE, SVT, RTP, RTBF,RAI…) and theatrical release. She set up Scottish Documentary Institute in 2003 and over the years devised several talent ladder award winning schemes: Bridging the Gap, This is Scotland, Stories. She serves on juries and panels at festivals and runs workshops in Africa and Levant region.
2002, she co-produced Fellini, I’m a Born Liar (France), nominated for Best European Documentary; 2007 State of the World (Portugal), an omnibus film directed by various filmmakers including Apichatpong, Chantal Akerman and Wang Bing, which premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, and most recently she exec produces most feature films going through SDI productions (Time Trial /Syrian Stories / Donkeyote /Libya in Motion/Where we are meant to be /Seven Songs / Norfolk / I Am Breathing …) working with wide range of emerging and established talent.

Luís Correia

Luís Correia was the co-founder of the AporDOC association, director of the “International Encounters of Documentary Cinema – Amascultura”, of the “CineCiência” Festival, and founder of the DOCLISBOA Festival.

He is a member of the EDN – European Documentary Network and since 2001 participates in the steering committee of the European program EURODOC.

In recent years he has developed several co-production and cooperation projects in Africa, including the AfricaDOC training program, aimed at young filmmakers from the PALOP countries.

Lx Filmes was founded by Luís Correia in January 2000 and since then has produced dozens of films screened and awarded internationally.

Cine-Debate: ‘Bondança’

HERITALES brings to EARTHfest 2018 the documentary ‘Bondança’ (Abundance).

Directed by Manuela Barile, with research by Luis Costa and Manuela Barile and local mediation by Isabel Silvestre, ‘Bondança’ is  an almost wordless documentary about the yearly celebration of corn in a tiny rural village of the municipality of São Pedro do Sul (Viseu Dão Lafões Region), from its seeding to the making of corn bread, intertwined with many of the local female polyphonic chanting.
The presentation of the films and moderation of the debate will be in charge of Nicola Schiavottiello, with online guests Luis Costa and Manuela Barile.

Manuela BarileManuela Barile

Manuela is an Italian artist living and working in the Portuguese rural area of Lafões since 2006. There, she has been developing place-based projects in close contact with local communities, taking into account specific aspects of the territory such as tradition, memory, community architecture and history, and symbols and rituals deposited as indelible signs in the ground. Her works combine sound and visual anthropology, documentary, video art, performance art and vocal performance. They address intimate issues such as death, pain, happiness, work, and religiosity. The artist conceives her art as a continuous investigation and reflection on reality, on being in the world, on her personal experience. As a singer, she has undertaken a personal journey of vocal experimentation applied to free improvisation and based on “extended vocal techniques” focused on the relationship between voice, body, soundscape and acoustic properties of places. Manuela Barile is Director of Binaural/Nodar, a Portuguese cultural organization dedicated to the promotion of sound and media arts in a rural context. Her audiovisual works have been shown in festivals worldwide, such as the Australian International Experimental Film Festival, Cologne OFF, Optica, Videoholica, and the Camden International Film Festival (US).
